Craig Music Publishers’ Frequently asked questions

Why buy digital download sheet music?

Digital woodwind quintet sheet music offers significant advantages compared to traditional paper copies. These advantages include portability, space-saving, organization, collaboration and sharing, an eco-friendly option, functionality, instant access with cloud storage, enhanced readability, and hands-free page turning. These benefits streamline musicians' practice and performance. An entire digital music library, containing thousands of pages of scores and individual parts, can be uploaded to a single lightweight device such as a tablet or laptop. This sheet music storage option eliminates the need to carry bulky folders, which is especially handy for musicians traveling to rehearsals, lessons, or gigs with lots of other equipment.

Why buy digital download sheet music from CMP?

Each arrangement by Craig Music Publishers (CMP) is meticulously crafted using my 24 years of experience in clarinet performance, woodwind ensemble performance, music publishing, and engraving. I have performed with several woodwind ensembles, ranging from clarinet quartets to woodwind quintets, as well as full clarinet choirs and large woodwind choirs. My arrangements have been performed live, on radio, television, and streaming services internationally for over 20 years. These exceptional arrangements have been featured on several recordings, and seven of my arrangements are listed on the Texas UIL and Florida Prescribed Music Lists.

What are CMP’s Core Values?

CMP’s core values include Integrity, Quality, and Value. After spending 24 years in the U.S. Air Force Bands, Mark understands the importance of integrity. Integrity means being honest with your customers, not cutting corners, and having high moral principles. Quality is essential for a music arranger. It means never publishing a sub-standard arrangement. Quality means using a painstaking, detailed, thorough editing process to meticulously craft exceptional arrangements. CMP also knows the value of its arrangements. These hand-crafted arrangements were chosen for performance by professional groups, military band ensembles, and college groups throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia because they offer outstanding value, providing a reasonable price for a high-quality product.

Does a CMP Purchase include the rights to perform said work(s) in public?

Unfortunately, no. “Buying the sheet music is simply a legal transfer of a copy of the work. No other rights, such as performing, recording, or even posting a recorded sample of your work on Facebook, YouTube, or your website extends because of the purchase…Whether you are a one-person band looking to perform in a local coffee shop or a community choir that performs without charging admission, merely purchasing sheet music is not enough. If you perform in public, you are usually required to pay royalties to one of the performance rights societies that control such things in the United States. Failure to do so could result in a copyright infringement claim that is at least embarrassing, if not costly.”

How does copyright protection work?

“For both musical works and sound recordings, copyright protection begins the moment the work is fixed— for example, when a song is recorded in an audio file or when a musical work is notated in sheet music or a digital file.” All Craig Music Publishers (CMP) arrangements are registered with the I.S.M.N. Agency through the Library of Congress, and are copyright-protected by CMP. All Mark A. Craig / Craig Music Publishers arrangements published on Sheet Music Direct and Sheet Music Plus through Hal Leonard’s ArrangeMe are copyright-protected by Hal Leonard.
