This intermediate woodwind quintet arrangement of Josef Franz Wagner's march "Under the Double Eagle" is not the typical American or Sousa-type march. Wagner was an Austrian military bandmaster and composer, often referred to as the “Austrian March King,” and this title refers to the two-headed eagle on the Austro-Hungarian coat of arms. This transcription of a Romantic Era work is perfect for recitals, contests, competitions, weddings, graduation ceremonies, and background-dinner-music gigs.

It is a short, engaging piece that can break up a long program and give the ears a brief hiatus from some of the heavier pieces on the program. This arrangement was written for professional, college, and upper-level high school ensembles. I have included an alternate bass clarinet part in lieu of a missing bassoon. Originally scored for a military band, I hope you enjoy this unique setting of a European band classic, arranged for woodwind quintet.

If you'd like to save 40%, click here to buy this March as part of my collection: Three European Marches, along with Davide Delle Cese's "L'Inglesina," and Julius Fučík's "Florentiner March."

CMP Blog Post 12 delves into my inspiration behind writing this new arrangement for woodwind quintet of Delle Cese’s classic symphonic march. It also features some fun music trivia about all three pieces included in Three European Marches. Click here to read all about it on my CMP Blog Page‍.
